About Texel
How do you get to Texel?
By the TESO ferry from Den Helder to 't Horntje. The crossing takes about twenty minutes and the ferry runs all day, at least once an hour. You can take a car, a bike or go on foot.
Can you take your car to Texel?
Yes. Texel is the only Wadden island you can easily reach with your own car: it goes with you on the ferry from Den Helder.
Which villages does Texel have?
Texel has seven villages: Den Burg, De Koog, Den Hoorn, Oudeschild, Oosterend, De Cocksdorp and De Waal. Den Burg lies in the middle of the island, De Koog on the North Sea coast.
What is Texel known for?
Its nature: about a third of the island is nature reserve. The dunes and woods on the west side form Dunes of Texel National Park, with dunes up to a thousand years old and De Slufter, a large salt marsh in an open dune valley. Texel is the largest Dutch Wadden island.
