Sop Speedy Zeehondentochten

I took the tour with my grown children and we were thrilled. After 30 years of visiting Texel, it was a completely new perspective, and the captain shared interesting facts about the seals and the harbor. We'd love to go again.

Two weeks ago, we booked with Sop Speedy. We were really looking forward to it and booked well in advance. Only in the afternoon did we receive a call informing us that the Sop Speedy trip was canceled and that we would instead be on one of their calmer boats. They had promised us a "speedboat experience." When we asked if there was another speedboat in the harbor, they said no. When we arrived, we found ourselves on the "Anna" with a large group of other people. I counted more than 20 people. And this despite the fact that we had been promised an "intimate experience" on the Sop Speedy. In the meantime, we found a spot on a speedboat with another company in the harbor. They said the weather was perfect for a speedboat ride. This one was also much nicer and faster than the Sop Speedy. They also pointed out the sprung seats, which they said were important in the choppy water. Unfortunately, we didn't get our money back. We felt cheated. Finally on the Anna (which felt like a ferry, crammed full of other people), we barely saw any seals. The boat couldn't go any further out because of the rough seas?! There were other people on the boat who were very disappointed. Our advice: Never book with these scammers! You book a boat, but everyone ends up on an ugly boat you didn't book!

Went out with skipper Johan today. There is a risk of splashing, but it is an incredibly fun experience. Highly recommended and worth every penny!! If you are visiting Texel, I would definitely book this or add it to your list of activities.

Sailed on the Sop Speedy this morning. What a fantastic experience. Skipper Albert is a star. We sailed to the Razende Bol and took a good look at the seals. A few even swam towards the boat. Top-notch experience! There are other providers of seal tours on Texel, and I begrudge no one their revenue, but Sop Speedy deserves many customers *and* many 5-star reviews!
